I’m
late again.
My portion of the
newsletter was due on Friday and here it is Monday.
So I write as I ride from New Orleans.
Just heard on the radio that hell is frozen in light of the
Saints big win last night.
It was a
nail biter game.
And the big win only
took some 43 years.
I shouldn’t date
myself, but the Saints team was formed in 1967…The same year I graduated high
school.
I know, too much information.
But, I’m proud of the Saints and New Orleans
and it’s going to be an exciting 13 days till game day.
Here comes Miami and the Super Bowl with the
New Orleans Saints.
O.K.
it’s not the same national attention as the Super Bowl draws but it’s almost as
exciting, the LCG will enjoy almost as much excitement!
Lots of stuff to share even though some of
the details are still being worked out, but it’s going to be a busy year.
Let’s
begin with
Festival Acadiens et Creoles.
The application is online along with all the
details.
Please join us at Girard Park
for this ever evolving, always exciting festival on October 9 & 10.
Miles Peterson’s been finalizing details and
working with Ze’ daLuz to make sure you can log onto www.LouisianaCrafts.org for info and
registration.
Festival International will be here before we
know it.
Festival dates are April
21-25.
I understand the number of
booths for Marche de Arts is fewer than in years past.
Somehow, there has to be room for all LCG
members who want to participate to do so.
We just need more Parc Sans Souci.
It’s my understanding that the booths that were added last year adjacent
to the street have been eliminated.
It’s also my understanding that if you applied on time and if you’re a
Guild member, you’re golden.
Good
Luck!
Please
join the Louisiana
Partnership for the
Arts (LPA) and the advocacy arm,
LPAA.
(Louisiana Partnership for the Arts
Advocacy).
The first LPA/LPAA quarterly
meeting is slated for February 3rd at the Acadiana Center for the
Arts.
It begins at 10am and will
conclude at 1pm.
I sing the praises of
LPA because I have seen this organization work hard for our artists.
Please join the organization.
I believe you can join for about $25, and
your donation assists legislative support as we begin the process of finding
funds for arts organizations and individual artists.
LPAA works directly with our lobbyists during the upcoming budget
sessions.
You can find out more when
you join your friends at the Feb 3rd meeting at AcA in Lafayette at
10am.
Be there.
I
think I counted about 80 the last time I looked at our website to see how many
members had rejoined.
Your individual
artist page on the website only appears when you’re a member in good
standing.
In other words, when you pay
your dues, your data returns to the website.
Wondering where you went?
Log
onto the LCG website and complete your form and
pay your dues.
Remember,
the investment of being a Guild member is equal to about 2 Whopper value meals
a month.
We need every single
member.
Actually, we need every single
member to court a friend and bring one person into the Guild.
That would be a great goal.
That is a great goal.
Thank you for paying your dues and renewing
your membership.
Not
many left.
The
LDOA Grant Workshop is underway at AcA in Lafayette today.
Wednesday the LDOA Grant Workshop heads to
Alexandria (January 27th at 10am at the Arts Council of Central
Louisiana offices in the
Rapides
Foundation offices in downtown Alexandria.
You can log onto the Guild website and see all the available
dates of statewide workshops.
Oh, and
the reason you will want to be in attendance at one of these workshops is
because the LDOA (Louisiana Division of the Arts) offers grant opportunities
for individual artists.
Just ask Ann
Russo how you can apply for an individual artist grant to help build your arts
business.
They can help with equipment,
educational opportunities and more.
But
you won’t have access to up to 5K, if you don’t get involved.
Many of the LCG artists have applied and
received funding.
Find one and ask for
help…or be at the workshop and the presenters will explain the process and
offer information to assist you.
Organizational
grants are due at the LDOA offices in Baton Rouge on March 1st, and
that deadline will be her before we can say “Who Dat?:”
College
Art Association, with assistance from the Tremaine Foundation, in partnership
with the LCG will offer visual artists in the Lafayette area a
professional development workshop.
The tentative date is March 13th.
We may have to move the event to a different
date to be able to bring the speakers to the event.
If you show your art in a 10x10 space, you’ll want to be at this
workshop.
Watch your email as the date
is confirmed.
Art in the Park at Hodges
Gardens is
slated for March 20.
Add this date to
your calendar and come enjoy the spring gardens at Hodges Gardens State Park
between Leesville and Many.
Last year
we had about 20 artists in the Park and several went home very happy with some
large sales from this event.
Don’t
forget to
stock your galleries.
Barnwell in Shreveport; River Oaks in
Alexandria; the LCG on Julia in New Orleans; Sans Souci in Lafayette…And,
PLEASE remember to make an appointment 24 hours prior to your arrival to
deliver your items.
Speaking of
galleries, Luann Duhon, Annie O’dell and I spent two days at LCG on Julia with
Gallery Manager, Meg Hall, to prepare an inventory report of all stock.
We were there Sunday and Monday (days the
gallery is usually closed) and we had an opportunity to meet Meg’s family.
Actually, they assisted us in the inventory
and I would like to thank Stacey and Clifford for their hours of help
identifying, counting, labeling and finally rearranging the gallery.
The
best part…of course, it’s done.
Hope your new year is
shaping up and that your sales are the best ever.
Here’s to a great 2010.
It’s gotta be a great year…the Saints are heading to the Super Bowl.
