Craft Medium:  Fiber

Artist's Statement: My work includes the use of fiber reactive dyes and various dye resist techniques. By folding and binding the fabric in different ways and with different tools, endless variations of interesting patterns emerge. Each piece I do is an experiment, and seeing the results and the nuances within each one is always magical and exciting. I have a bold and organic style inspired by nature and my graphic design background. I am a perfectionist–both a gift and a curse. Sometimes I get so caught up in the idea of perfect design that I initially miss the beauty of the unexpected. And that's the real beauty of this craft afterall–each piece is different and unique and a lot of times the results are a complete surprise.

Artist Biography:
Born in New Iberia, LA but raised in Baton Rouge, I graduated from LSU in 1998 with a degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences. After a few short years in the field, I decided that writing code and wearing suits just wasn't for me. I returned to school, taking a few art courses at The University of Houston. I quickly decided to expedite my education and became a full time student once again in order to move on to my new career as soon as possible. I earned a 2nd degree in graphic design from the Art Institute of Houston in 2003. As much as I've enjoyed my career in graphic design, I look forward to the times I can step away from the computer and find creative outlets elsewhere. I love learning new things and I am self-taught in silk-screening and fabric/surface design. Who knows what will be next?
