Craft Medium:  Glass, Metal

Artist's Statement: I create sterling silver and copper wire jewelry. My designs are both ancient, as is the case with the chainmaille jewelry or more contemporary and whimsical. Designs are inspired by the wire itself or by the glass or gemstone beads I choose to include in the piece. Each piece is made one at a time, by hand.

Artist Biography:
Laura Teague is a Baton Rouge-based jewelry artist who works with sterling silver, copper and gold wire as well as beads made from those metals in addition to gemstones and her own handmade glass beads. All of the rings and other wire components used in the jewelry are handmade by Laura. The wire is twisted, coiled and woven by hand into substantial, functional and sometimes elaborate pieces. She finds immense pleasure in the feel of the wire in her hands as it transforms into unique pieces, stating that “the wire itself inspires the design” of each piece.

The first Saturday of each month, Laura and her jewelry can usually be found at the Baton Rouge Arts Market. She also participates in juried local festivals such as the Baton Rouge FestForAll as well as the Festival Acadiens et Creoles and the Festival International in Lafayette. Laura is a juried member of the Louisiana Crafts Guild and the Mississippi Craftsmen’s Guild and her wire jewelry has been published in The Wire Artist.

In addition to the LSU Museum Store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Laura Teague Jewelry can be found at the Sans Souci Fine Arts Gallery in Lafayette, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum in Lake Charles and the store at The Barnwell Center in Shreveport. A selection of her jewelry is also available through her website .
