Artist Biography:
I was born and raised on a 500-acre farm in the Midwest where I learned to raise livestock, grow and preserve our food, and appreciate nature and all its wonderful seasons. Dad was a full time coal-miner and raised cattle, hogs, and grain. He and Mom still farm today. My younger sister is a high school math teacher and my younger brother is a diesel mechanic by trade.

My mother, grandmothers, and great-great aunt instilled in me a love of nature, art, and glass. Mom is a fabulous cook and collector of Depression Glass-ware. My grandmothers were artists in textiles and gardening. My Great-great Aunt Addie’s works of art were made by “reverse painting” on glass.

I moved to Louisiana in the early 1980’s and fell in love with the culture. I found my new home very different from the place and people I grew up knowing. The food was spicy, the people warm, and the Cajun French language exotic.

In February 2005, I learned that my backyard neighbor was a stained glass artist and had been for many years. I asked her if she would teach me about working in stained glass. She graciously agreed. I’m so very thankful for the knowledge she shared with me.

I started my home-based business and named it Botanical Glass. My studio is in my glass-enclosed back porch and overlooks my backyard sanctuary where I get to enjoy the birds and flowers as I work in my craft. Panels are created using both copper-foil and lead techniques. Due to its organic feel, my glass of choice is handmade as opposed to machine rolled. I am always searching for unique findings to add to my glass designs.
