Artist Statement

I've always had a creative side. I just never had time to feed it.Raising four beautiful kids and a full-time plus job left little time for much and no mental energy.
Something just kept gnawing at my brain.
Now, I have time to create.
It's slow going because, for the most part, I'm self taught. I did have the opportunity to take a class with Kim St. John a few years back, but what jump started this whole endeavor was my short but life changing time at the Art on the Prairie in the fall of 2014. I took a class with Jessica Jordan and Richard Salley. Until then, I was a very tentative metal smith. I could melt balls, also things I hadn't intended to melt. The torch kind of scared me. But with their gentle coaxing and encouragement I overcame that fear, and actually came away with a handful of silver rings.
That I made.
Without melting. Well maybe one.
So home I came and I bought a torch. From there I learned through trial, error and YouTube.
Upward and onward.
Slowly I make
It's fun and I like it.
So I'll keep doing it
