Art and life are inseparable parts of each other and we all exist within it. The world itself is our most inspired canvas. Storms and time will take majestic grandfathers that shaded our escapes, held swings that swayed at sunsets, and connected us to our horizons. After our giants fall, what can be revealed hidden within them is creation…perfect in its imperfections. Vibrant tones, unique variations, and the very shapes of life can wake us, connect us to who we are, and speak to our memories of silhouettes and sunsets
Steven Lindley’s eyes are perpetually drawn to the majestic trees on the roadsides and wood lines wherever he travels. His admiration and respect for the natural beauty of the northern forests of Michigan where he was born and the southern bayous of Louisiana where he was raised are rooted in his earliest memories. Not surprisingly, his inspiration leads him to reveal that beauty hidden within our magnificent southern oaks and hardwoods felled by storms. Steven began woodworking in his teens and continued until 2011 when he quit his career in the oilfield to become a full time artist. Steven is at home in his backyard wood shop off the beaten path in Napoleonville, Louisiana where he salvages the mighty fallen near and far to give them new life and purpose. His style and technique as a power carver and scroll saw artist are dictated and defined by the natural beauty all around us.
