Margaret "Peg" Martinez
Wood / New Orleans, LA
Each piece is one of a kind and built to last a lifetime and more. I want my work to be on Antiques Roadshow in 100 years, still in amazing condition.
I am a native New Orleanian who truly discovered my passion for woodworking after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I had worked for many years as a psychiatric social worker, and witnessed the physical and emotional toll that the flood took on New Orleans residents and my beloved city. The storm allowed me to … think outside the box… I wanted to feel positive and creative again. And so was born Square Peg Artistic Woodworks, with enormous guidance from books, magazines, and YouTube videos. I create keepsake and jewelry boxes combining multiple hardwoods of different grain and color. The geometric designs provide both visual interest and practical function. They are created without the use of nails or screws, and hand rubbed with several coats of Danish Oil.
