Artist Statement

I am a Louisiana folklife artist. I learned from my mother, Geraldine Robertson. I make corn shuck dolls, split white oak baskets, wreaths, clothes pin dolls, Spanish moss dolls and do chair weaving.

I learned to do basket weaving, chair weaving and doll making from my mother, Geraldine Robertson. As a family, we worked hard, cutting down trees for making white oak baskets, dying shucks to make dolls in beautiful colors and weaved chairs in cane sometimes all night long, just to get the work done on time. Festival life was our life for the past 45 years. I continue in this tradition for the first time on my own. I am looking forward to sharing my skills and knowledge with today's generation.
