Nichole Dupre

Mixed Media / Bush, LA

Artist Statement

I have been interested in drawing and architecture for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, my family would take me to the French Quarter. I was (and still am) completely taken by the colors, smells, and activity. I am the girl who walks down Bourbon Street, not interested in the bars, but in the beautiful buildings that house them. New Orleans has a unique vibe and mystique. Its history- some standing tall, some showing the peeling and decaying of time- is what I connect so deeply with.
I create mixed media pieces to convey the feeling I have when I am in the city of New Orleans. I use recycled and repurposed materials straight from the old buildings that I am representing. I also incorporate found objects in many pieces. I hope the joy I feel is conveyed in each piece.
