Artist Statement

I, Greg Arceneaux, as an artist and craftsman, whish to impact peoples lives on a daily basis. Also I wish to utilize the indigenous material in a creative way. I try to connect past, present and future through use of the decorative arts. I try to celebrate Louisiana's unique heritage.

I studied art at LSU in the early 70's. I wasn't satisfied creating sculptural forms. I wanted to combine the artistic with the utilitarian. My craft gives me the means of connecting with people by enhancing their daily lives through grace, beauty and utility. Through my research I realized that Louisiana's Heritage was rapidly disappearing. Only a few original furnishing examples still exist. Creole and Acadian style is some of the most unique yet most overlooked forms of antiquity in the decorative arts. These particular designs have not produced in 150 to 200 years.

On this path, I hope to share, preserve and perpetuate the Louisiana Heritage and create appreciation for diversity in our greater culture.
