Artist Statement

In our “throw-away” society where planned obsolescence has become a staple of our economy, I am inspired to meet the greening challenge to reuse and recycle. Being taught from an early age not to waste what I have, whether resources or talents, I am instilled to embrace our Acadian ancestral traditions to “make over, make new, make do, or do without.”

As a fiber artist, I implement skills learned throughout my life, using fabric from vintage neck ties combined with embellishments of embroidery, beading, and other attachments. I take inspiration from the colors, textures, and prints of the neck ties, along with my study of design, clothing construction, quilting and mathematics to create functional and decorative pieces. I transform the neck tie into geometric “quilt block” designs, then to handbags, glass cases and unique artworks.

A Louisiana native, I grew up in St Landry Parish, attending elementary school at St. Ignatius in Grand Coteau LA and high school at Sunset High.
I graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration, Merchandising Curriculum/ Marketing Department, from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana) in Lafayette, LA in 1975.
While my days are spent in the business sector working in accounting, my joy is working with fabrics to create decorative and functional works of art.
