Artist Statement

I handcraft mixed metal, textured jewelry made from sterling silver, copper and brass. When accessible, I utilize reclaimed materials including roofing materials, utility cables and conduit. I sometimes include natural stones and pearls in my design elements.
I employ many texturing methods including hammering, fold forming, and acid etching. I try to include at least two contrasting metals in my designs. Inspiration comes from textures found in nature and my surroundings. I actively seek unique shapes and forms that capture my attention.
Construction through experimentation is how most of my one-of-a-kind pieces come together. Each unique creation is designed with the intent to capture the individuality of the person wearing the piece. As Dr. Seuss once wrote, 'Why fit in when you were born to stand out!'

Christy Barrett is a wife and mom with deeply embedded Southern roots in Mississippi. More than a decade ago, she moved to the Bayou State. About seven years ago, a suggestion to take a leisure class at LSU opened a whole new world to her. Christy took four classes in metal working under Metalsmith Tom Lorio and has taught herself to acid etch. Since then the art of manipulating copper, brass and sterling silver has become a passion.
