Artist Biography:
My name is Sam Riehl. I am a local blacksmith of Lafayette and have been for four years now. I started off messing around with glass, my mom’s medium, early on, but discovered that wasn’t my thing. Every year mom was involved with Pyromania, a festival centered around fire generated art, and I would help her set up, unload and stuff like that. Every now and then she would even let me demonstrate. But gradually over the years, it was becoming harder and harder for her to find me when she needed help. She knew exactly where to look though, the blacksmiths tent. Being that I have two generations of glass workers behind me, I guess most people expected me to lean toward glass, but I set my own path on the metal side of things.
Sam is a student member of the Louisiana Crafts Guild
