Artist's Statement: I have always been a collector. The process of creating mosaics fits that mold - from searching for, choosing and collecting the individual tesserae- to integrating the collection into a mosaic. Nature inspires me both in design and material. I use natural material such as stone, minerals, and smelted glass to create abstract designs. Each mosaic has a unique design; each piece of tesserae is carefully chosen and placed. Designs are often influenced by lines found in nature- the curve of a river, the slope of a mountain. I am discovering ways to select unexpected combinations, creating new ideas. I’m excited by the challenge to adhere to the parameters required by mosaics, yet stretch the traditional boundaries.
