Craft Medium:  Mixed Media Artist's Statement: The artist, Mary Louise Porter, works in mixed media assemblages. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout Louisiana as well as nationally. Her contemporary landscapes are a combination of ideas from the imagination, images seen in commonplace reality, and explorations of areas seen in Louisiana and her travels. They are truly a journey of memories and recollections of her life. Several of the compositions are from a birds eye view, as if flying within the landscape from above. Juxtaposing planes, tilting angles and obscured vanishing points become the theme of many of the landscapes. Converging lines create dynamic movement. Angular lines intersect, merge, and vary the contour of the land. Color is very important in conveying to the viewer the mood of the painting. The colors are intense, bold, and sometimes complex to demonstrate the energy visualized in the final outcome.
