Terry McViccar

Fiber / Lafayette, Louisiana

The touchstone of my motivation and inspiration is that everyday objects can and should be made to be simple, beautiful, and functional. When one does a craft well and with intentionality, one learns more about the structure of the craft, of oneself, and the world in which one lives.

I spent my childhood on my grandparents' farm in Bay Hills (Avoyelles Parish). From my grandparents I inherited my love of animals and gardening. My French grandmother (3rd generation from Poitou, France) taught me the art of the hook--crocheting and rug hooking with yarn. I use a traditional Acadian rug hooking frame, the design of which comes from Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
